Who We Are

Ahtutu (written အတူတူ in the Myanmar language) means ‘together’.  Ahtutu works together with and through a local Myanmar NGO (non-governmental organisation) called KMSS Pathein, one of the Caritas organisations, to support all young people in need in South West Myanmar, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.

Mary Gallois (formerly Durkacz) first went to Myanmar (the country known as Burma until 1989) in January 2014 to teach English.  She raised more than $1800 for flood relief in September 2016 before deciding to make the charity more formal in March 2017.  Having registered with HMRC as a charitable company in January 2018, Ahtutu’s Founder-Trustee worked with a small team to ensure that Ahtutu became UK Registered Charity 1182338 on 5th March 2019.

Ahtutu is pleased to have a number of key supporters who help Mary keep the organisation working purposefully into the future – Katie Betts (Admin Manager), Stella Fox, Kate Durkacz, Kate McNeil and Joan Wall are fellow trustees. Eileen Waterston is an honorary Trustee. Tim Newton is our Finance Manager.

Mary has had a number of inspirations for the work she does in Myanmar but the most compelling is her late father, Bernard Kennedy.

To contact Ahtutu, please email ahtutucharity@gmail.com or write to us at the address below.

The charity’s registered address is: 20, The Stables, Elveden, Thetford, Norfolk IP24 3TF

Ahtutu is committed to working openly alongside all individuals, teams, organisations and charities seeking to support young people in Myanmar.
