Who We Are

Ahtutu (written အတူတူ in the Myanmar language) means ‘together’.  Ahtutu works together with and through a local Myanmar NGO (non-governmental organisation) called KMSS Pathein, one of the Caritas organisations, to support all young people in need in Myanmar, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.

Mary Durkacz first went to Myanmar (the country known as Burma until 1989) in January 2014 to teach English.  She raised more than $1800 for flood relief in September 2016 before deciding to make the charity more formal in March 2017.  As Founder-Trustee she worked with a small team to gain Charitable Company status for Ahtutu in February 2018.

Ahtutu is pleased to have a number of key supporters who help Mary keep the organisation working purposefully into the future – Katie Betts (Admin Manager), Stella Fox, Kate Durkacz, Kate McNeil and Erica Utsi (Finance Manager) are fellow trustees.

Mary has had a number of inspirations for the work she does in Myanmar but the most compelling is her late father, Bernard Kennedy.
